Project report: Hybrid pharmacy concepts

How can a pharmacy remain relevant in an increasingly digital world? For pharmacist Laura Stammer, the answer was clear: only a contemporary, flexible space can meet the growing demands of daily pharmacy operations. Together with interior architect Sophie Reich, she developed a holistic concept for modernizing the Schwalbanger Pharmacy. The focus: efficiency, consultation quality, and a space that is intuitive to use and easily adaptable.

Modernizing the Schwalbanger Pharmacy was much more than a structural project for Laura Stammer. At its core was the idea of creating an environment that meets the needs of both customers and staff. Flexibility and future readiness were key principles. "It was especially important to me to integrate modern technology in a meaningful way—without losing the personal character and familiar atmosphere of our pharmacy," she explains.

Forward-thinking pharmacy concepts

To realize this vision, she collaborated with Sophie Reich. As an interior designer with 20 years of experience and a focus on pharmacies since 2009, Sophie’s approach is rooted in one principle: every pharmacy is unique—and that should be reflected in the space.

“We began with a detailed analysis, which I developed together with Ms. Stammer. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but rather a concept precisely tailored to the specific requirements,” Sophie explains.

Visplay offers an enormous range of solutions that can be individually combined—this is what makes the systems so valuable to me. There’s also always the possibility of implementing special requirements or design ideas in collaboration with the technical team. A dream for any designer!” – Sophie Reich, Interior designer

Visplay systems as a core component

To meet the project’s demands, they deliberately chose Visplay. Three modular systems were integrated into a coherent overall concept. For Sophie Reich, Visplay was the ideal partner to combine aesthetic ambitions with functional needs.

“Visplay provides maximum flexibility alongside high technical quality. The systems are easily adaptable, integrate well into existing workflows, and enable digital applications like electronic price tags or tablets—without the need for floor boxes,” she explains.

For Laura Stammer, the benefits became especially clear in daily operations: “Compared to classic built-in shelving, Visplay offers more design freedom and a contemporary, customer-focused look. The ability to quickly and flexibly reorganize products or stage seasonal themes is also a clear advantage.”

Before: dark colors and rigid shelving structures created a bulky impression.

After: light tones and flexible structures using Multi-Lane.

„A modern, flexible interior like Visplay’s not only brings visual advantages but also improves everyday workflows. I would definitely recommend investing in quality and future-readiness. Systems like Visplay’s are modular and can easily be adapted to new assortments or concepts—such as test stations or vaccination services in the pharmacy.” – Laura Stammer, Pharmacy Owner.

Outdated Concept: previously lacked structure and a cohesive, modern design.

Modernized: clear lines and flexible product presentation; the counter now appears inviting and the space is optimally utilized.

Clarity and Minimalism: behind the counter, the Invisible system enables a clean and modern presentation.

Key aspects of the project implementation:

  • A modern appearance that also creates a welcoming atmosphere
  • Optimized customer flow—especially important during peak hours
  • Sufficient checkout areas with privacy and good visibility across the sales floor
  • Sustainability and a strong focus on impactful product presentation
  • Flexibility—allowing quick, easy changes by the in-house team
  • An appealing shop window that always looks neat and inviting

More clarity, better consultation, enhanced atmosphere

The new setup stands out with its structure, clarity, and ambiance. Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The presentation is seen as more modern and organized—while the familiar identity of the pharmacy remains intact.

“In general, the improved product presentation has had a positive effect on sales,” notes Laura Stammer. She also reports that the modular structure of Visplay’s systems enables easy reconfiguration of sales areas.

For Sophie Reich, this project highlights the importance of flexible planning in pharmacy environments. “Pharmacies today are more than places for dispensing medication. They are evolving into modern retail spaces where consultation, services, and product staging come together. To me, innovation doesn’t mean reinventing everything—it’s about making meaningful changes where they truly add value.” This is why modular systems are a key success factor for hybrid and future-ready pharmacies.
